The majority of my twenties were spent traveling around in bands, playing in dive bars and small clubs. I often found myself sleeping on the floor of a stranger's apartment while on tour with my band. My life as a musician is what ultimately led me to photography. The lifestyle was such a blur that photography became a portal to our otherwise missed experiences, both proof that life did, in fact, happen — and also proof that we definitely were not rockstars. I’m honored to say I’ve contributed musically to over ten albums, including playing upright bass on a handful of songs with Tom Waits.
My wife Renée and I met in fourth grade at a small elementary school in Occidental, California. 22 years later we got married in that same small town, and I gladly took her last name. A few years ago, we welcomed our daughter, Luca, into this world — bringing unparalleled magic and wonder to our lives. We now have a son named Laszlo and we couldn’t be happier.
My father is another important fixture in my life. He passed away six months after our wedding, when cancer popped up out of nowhere. I had no idea how meaningful the picture below of the two of us on my wedding day would become just months later.
Process
I am honored to be a photographer and I’m especially grateful to photograph weddings. If you choose me as your wedding photographer, please know I approach my work with the intention of creating images that feel uniquely authentic to you. My goal is to blend with your lives and photograph from the perspective of a family member and friend, to be fully present, to pay attention to the details of your day that you would otherwise miss, and to help you embrace the beautiful light of your wedding day.
I shoot majority digital, but I also shoot film. I have a black and white darkroom at my home and I love to print photographs. I might use a little color film, but for the most part the film is B&W. I’ll go through a few rolls no matter what, but if you are interested in majority film we can work out a custom approach together.
Thank you
If you’ve read this far, thank you. It means the world to know you spent some time considering me. I look forward to meeting you:)
