I took a black & white darkroom class in 2011 and it really, totally, changed my life.
After years of taking pictures, looking at pictures, and talking A LOT about pictures, I would not want to be doing anything else with my life. As a photographer I get to be a witness to the world as it unfolds in real-time, which is a profound and truly special thing.
Weddings are about family and community, yet each one has it’s own twist. I’ve learned not to force any certain kind of picture I might have in my head because that’s not the best way to capture what’s authentic. My approach is to be present and pay attention to what’s happening around me, as opposed to trying to create something that isn’t there.
I live with my wife and two kiddos in Sonoma County, California. My wife Renée and I met in fourth grade at a small elementary school in Occidental, California. A few years ago, we welcomed our daughter, Luca, into this world — bringing unparalleled magic and wonder to our lives. We now have a son named Laszlo and we couldn’t be happier.
Zack!
We noticed from your site before meeting you that you have a special ability to really capture the spirit of the event. And to capture those unique moments that often get left behind, over the more stiff and structured approaches to wedding photography. You are so talented and we could not be happier. We sent the link to everyone who attended and everyone is extremely complimentary of the photos, but also of you as a person. We are thrilled that you were our wedding photographer. Thank you, thank you, thank you!! We are going to cherish these forever. We’re getting them printed and put in an album :)
We could not be more appreciative.
I can’t emphasize enough how impressed I am with the thoughtfulness and artistry that Zack put into the entire process of photographing our wedding. First of all, he’s just a cool and down to earth guy. From the first conversation we had, it really felt like we were hiring a friend - someone who understood and appreciated what we were about and would meet us where we were.
There was a lot we didn’t know when it came to planning (for example, we didn’t even think to plan when we would take posed pictures with our families). On top of that, we were planning a wedding long-distance from across the country. Zack took the initiative to identify that we were clueless and needed help, and scheduled a conversation in which we discussed the entire day in detail. He made excellent suggestions not only to do with the logistics of the pictures but with the general flow of the event. He was incredibly patient and reassuring.
On the day-of, Zack brought exactly the same relaxed and grounded energy in person as he had during the planning process. He made great suggestions and adjustments to portraits and posed pictures without being distracting. He had excellent ideas in the moment that paid off enormously. Also, our friends loved him!
The final product (delivered earlier than expected) absolutely blew me away. The photos are beyond my wildest dreams. Each aspect of the day was captured so gorgeously and so true to my memory. Every person who has seen the photos has commented on the outstanding quality. “Looks like a vogue shoot” from a friend of mine (my husband and I are not models), says it all. Besides the obvious technical talent and unique artistic perspective it took to capture such beautifully composed images, there is clearly a deep sense of empathy behind each shot. They are moving images with such personality. It was this quality that prompted me to reach out to Zack in the first place, and he delivered completely.
Obviously I recommend without hesitation!
ZACK! Duuuuuude. We knew you'd kill it :')
These are beautiful! This is EXACTLY the type of moments we wanted to capture (and also why we knew you were the guy for the job!). We had so much fun looking through these and reminiscing on all the highlights. I also really loved seeing the moments shared between our guests that we weren't present for. I had debated whether it was a good choice to not have a videographer but these photos make me confident that we made the right decision. Your photos captured moments with so much style in a way that video could not accomplish. You really did an incredible job capturing the joy and all the personalities of our friends and family. We love all your artistic choices and you know we’re suckers for a purposeful blurry photo!
I’m so glad we chose you for our day. Also, adding a second shooter was extremely generous and really contributed to capturing every moment. Cant wait to share these with our loved ones.
Once again, you are awesome.
A million thank you’s!!!
We are absolutely thrilled with our wedding photos, Zack! From the moment we started working with you, your warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail made the entire experience so enjoyable. You captured every special moment with such creativity and care, and your calm, relaxed presence helped make our day feel effortless and stress-free. You arrived early, stayed late, and it was clear that you went above and beyond to ensure every shot was perfect. The candid and documentary style photos you took are exactly what we were looking for, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. We feel so lucky to have found you, thank you for giving us such beautiful memories to treasure forever!
Best decision I made throughout the wedding planning process.
Zack shot our engagement shoot entirely on film, and our wedding on film and digital. He perfectly captured the vibe of the wedding.
I knew he would deliver, but now being in receipt of these photos, I am in awe. He was able to capture the intimate, quiet moments, alongside the celebratory, lively moments. I loved the portraits he took of our friends and family (during the ceremony, listening to speeches, etc.), and the shots from the cocktail hour mingling and late night dancing. You can really feel the energy and love in his photos.
Our wedding ended up running late (surprise), and we only had an hour to dance. Zack's contracted time ended before the dancing even started. He checked in with me, told me he was going to stay to capture the dancing, and head out after. This speaks volumes!! He is so thoughtful and just an all around great guy.
The day of the wedding felt like a blur - a warm glow of love. Zack's photographs allow me to revisit this day with such clear, joyful memories, and I'm forever grateful.
Zack went and above and beyond for our engagement shoot in SF — he wandered our entire neighborhood with us, and we ended up with a beautiful set of photographs that span the urban and natural spaces we love in the city. This was our first professional photoshoot together as a couple, and I was nervous! Zack kept everything low key, made suggestions when needed, and managed to capture those "in-between" moments, which ended up being our favorite photographs. Highly recommend!
Zack was such an integral part of making our day memorable, smooth, and fun. He carved out time to scope out our ceremony site with us before our guerilla-style wedding, after our original plans changed due to Covid, and helped us decide where were the best spots for photographs, and even the best spot to have everyone stand during the ceremony for the best lighting and visually pleasing background. We love the variety of photographs that he captured of us and our family, and appreciate that he captured the energy and spirit of our day, as well as the silliness of us and our family members. Zack made suggestions to help us be more comfortable in front of the camera, but also let us do our own thing and captured those moments thoughtfully and intentionally. When you book Zack as your photographer, you not only get beautiful photos, but an all around great person to work with and have as part of your wedding.
We had Zack photograph our wedding recently, and I have nothing but wonderful things to say about our experience. Something I didn't think about before hiring Zack is how helpful it is to have an experienced wedding photographer who can help you find a natural flow to the schedule and make sure you're including all the moments you want to capture. The quality of his work is outstanding (as you'd expect from somebody who teaches photography at the university level and has a fine art background). He is a wonderful presence, relates naturally to guests, and has a sense of timing to capture some really special images. Turnaround time was fast and communication was excellent.
